How to rearrange pages in a PDF
Put pages into the order you actually want, including the scanner cases.
Pages end up in the wrong order for predictable reasons: a document fed into a scanner back to front, a bundle assembled in the order files happened to be selected, a summary that belongs at the front and was written last.
Reordering is a matter of describing the sequence you want.
The steps
- Upload the document.
- Drag page thumbnails into the order you want, or type the complete new sequence.
- Run the tool and download the reordered file.
Every page, exactly once
The new order must account for every page. That is a deliberate constraint: it means no page can be silently dropped or duplicated by a typo in a long list. If a page is missing from your sequence, the tool tells you rather than quietly producing a shorter document.
The single-sided scanner problem
Scanning a double-sided document on a single-sided feeder gives you all the odd pages, then all the even ones. What you need is them interleaved: 1, 7, 2, 8, 3, 9 and so on for a twelve-page document. Typing that sequence is faster than dragging twelve thumbnails, which is exactly why the text field exists alongside the drag interface.
If you just want it backwards
Reversing the whole document is a separate tool, and it does not ask you to list anything. Use Reverse Pages for that; use this tool when the order you want is not simply the opposite of the order you have.
